Single Ladies

Beyonce is such has such a huge influence on culture in America and all around the world. Her video 'Single Ladies' was such a hit that she won countless awards and it has been one of the most recreated videos of all time, even sparking controversy at the VMAs!

During the time of this video, Beyonce had introduced her 'Sasha Fierce' alter ego. I love her new image, which she promotes through iconography such as her mechanical arm which is used in most videos of the Sasha Fierce era.

The video focuses on Beyonce's performance as opposed to a storyline like in other music videos such as Lady Gaga and Beyonce's 'Telephone'

The black and white colour scheme makes the video seem timeless and classy, which is needed as the dancers are in such skimpy outfits! Beyonce pulls off the look with attitude from her alter ego Sasha Fierce. She interacts with the audience, looking at the camera and singing lyrics which other women can to relate to.

The lighting is very effective, moving from dark to light, which fits in with the dancing. Minimal mise-en-scene, characters and colours mixed with a variety of camera angles and shots create a simple yet effective look. The video is so iconic, which is why it's one of my favourites.
